New Features of ABBYY FineReader 7.0
Recognition Accuracy
- Recognition accuracy has been
improved by 25%. The program now analyzes and recognizes
documents with complex layouts even better, in particular documents with text on a color
or raster background and documents with complex tables (including tables with
white grid lines and tables with color cells).
- Specialized English and German
dictionaries have been added that include the most frequently used legal and
medical terminology, providing unmatched recognition accuracy of specialized
legal and medical texts.
XML Support and Integration with Microsoft Office
- FineReader now includes a new
saving format, Microsoft Word XML. Users of Microsoft Office 2003 will be
able to appreciate all the advantages provided by the XML format!
- Integration with Microsoft Word 2003
brings together the power of the two applications for processing recognized
texts. You will be able to check and edit recognition results using familiar
Microsoft Word tools and at the same time compare the exported results with the
original image: FineReader's Zoom window now opens in Microsoft Word.
- Your work will become more comfortable
thanks to a number of new features introduced in FineReader 7.0. When
creating a document in Microsoft Word, you can launch FineReader, recognize a piece
of text and insert it in the current Microsoft Word document right under the
pointer. This means that you will be able to collect information from several
paper or PDF documents in one electronic document. Recognition results can
now be sent by e-mail as an attachment in any of the supported saving
formats.
Improved Recognition of PDF
Documents
- The quality of recognition of PDF documents
has been drastically improved. Most PDFs have background text. FineReader 7.0 can extract this text and use it for
checking recognition results and improving recognition quality.
- You can now edit recognized PDF
documents in the FineReader editor: the changes you make will be saved in
any of the supported PDF saving formats.
- PDF documents created by FineReader
are optimized for publishing on the World Wide Web: your readers will be
able to see the first pages before the entire document has been downloaded.
New Saving Options
- A new saving format, Microsoft
PowerPoint,
will allow you to quickly create new presentations or edit the existing ones.
- When saving results in Microsoft Word,
the *.doc file will become smaller compared to the previous versions. The
retention of formatting of documents with various separators has been
improved and new saving options for images have been added.
- The retention of complex
formatting elements has been improved in HTML (e.g. text flowing around
non-rectangular images). The resulting HTML files are now smaller in size,
which is important for documents published on the Internet.
Ease of Use
- The program interface has been
updated and has become even more straightforward and user-friendly. The
professional settings have been made more accessible. Editing toolbars have
been moved to the window in which recognition results are displayed. New customization
tools allow you to fine-tune FineReader windows, for example, you can make
individual Zoom settings for each window.
- Thanks to the updated Tutorial, the beginner will be able to start using the program right away,
while the savvy user will find useful tips for tuning the program for
maximum quality and productivity.
Professional Features
FineReader Professional
Edition now includes those capabilities that were previously available only
to the users of FineReader Corporate Edition:
- Improved recognition of barcodes,
recognition support for PDF-417 2D barcodes.
- The image splitting tool will
allow you to split the image into several areas and save each area as a
separate page. This mode is particularly handy for recognizing business
cards scanned on one page, books, and PowerPoint printouts.
- Search with morphology support.
Any batch created in ABBYY FineReader can be used as a small database with
full-text search capabilities. You can search for words in all their
grammatical forms. (This feature is available for the 34 languages that have
dictionary support.)
- Intel Hyper-Threading
Technology support.
This technology can greatly increase productivity when recognizing large
numbers of documents.
Additional Professional
Features
- Duplex scanning. If you scan a
two-sided document using a duplex scanner, you will get separate images
for each side of the document. This option can be turned off if you do not
need duplex scanning.
- JPEG 2000 image files can be
opened and saved.
Network Capabilities of FineReader Corporate Edition
- All main installation methods from the
server to workstations are supported. FineReader Corporate
Edition supports all the main LAN installation methods: using Active Directory,
using Microsoft Systems Management Server, and using the command line.
- Support for multi-functional
devices, including network MFPs. MFPs that combine the functionality of the
scanner, printer, copier and fax are becoming more and more popular. FineReader
can work with such devices, both connected to a workstation and in a network.
Special program settings allow users to open scanned images automatically
from anywhere in the network or from an FTP server and recognize them.
- Several corporate licensing
models.
In addition to the concurrent licensing program, other licensing schemes
have been implemented. You will always be able to choose the licensing
scheme that best suits your needs.
- License Manager is a new
utility for managing licenses in a network environment. The License Manager
will allow you to monitor the use of FineReader Corporate Edition on
workstations, assign licenses to particular workstations, and add new
licenses.
For more information about installing
ABBYY FineReader on workstations, working with the License Manager, and working
with the program in a local area network, please refer to the "System
Administrator's Guide" which can be found in the Administrator's Guide folder
on the server on which FineReader was installed.
